Option Overload

Sometimes I think we have too many options.
Buy this.
Decide that.
You can choose between a) b) c) and d). Pick one now. You don't have much time.
In our world of class and comfort, we have options everywhere.
We can decide to go to this university.
We can eat this food or go to this restaurant.
In this age of hyper-consumerism and opportunity, I worry about choice. Because we have too much of it. As a result, it destroyes people. We have an excess of options.
Is this why I feel unsatisfied?
Why do I crave?
Why I am desiring more?
More power. More Status. More Success. Is this ok?
I am happy. I have friends. I have a family. I have all the modern comforts: room, computer, a career that is progressing. Yet, why do I feel....lost? Lost on a deep spiritual level?
What am I craving?
What the fuck I am looking for?
What, in a world when I can do anything and am doing some cool stuff, do I still have this uncanny sense of emptiness? Not all the time mine you - just on occassions.
I think it because of options.
We live in an age of option overload. Where everything is available. Opportunities are endless. You can buy anything if you have money, which, when you think about, is just an strange arbitary thing - how can a piece of paper transform a whole species?

So stop. Don't worry. Less is more. Go slow. Simple is better. Stop chasing the future all the time and make more of the moment. Stop fucking worrying Eddie. Everything is ok. Sure you have no money, but you are luckier than most. Just Make the most of your options. But dont be overwhelmed but them. Chill.

Eddie,

Great concept. The paradox of choice. If we only ever had one brand of Product X to buy from only one shop, we'd never regret our choice, nor would we find it elsewhere for cheaper. Which also means, we never have the stress of worrying about whether we will ever regret the choice.

Some beautiful lyrics from Cat Stevens: Father & Son

"It's not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to know
Find a girl, settle down, if you want you can marry
Look at me, I am old but I'm happy"

"But take your time, think a lot, why think of everything you've got
For you will still be here tomorrow but you dreams may not"
